A total solar eclipse happens when the moon passes directly between the Earth and the sun, covering the sun entirely and casting shadow over our skies.
This rare and spectacular event is visible only on a narrow strip of the planet, and lucky for us, it will be fully visible in the neighboring island of Indonesia this year. Combined with a curated list of music acts, the best visual and performing artists, plus the stunning nature of the tropics, this could be the coolest music festival you’ll ever attend.
Eclipse Festival 2016 will take place in the island of Palu, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia from March 7-11, 2016. This is a five-day event with various activities and workshops in music, arts and astrology to welcome and celebrate the appearance of the eclipse on March 9, 2016.
The eclipse will start at the Indian Ocean west of Sumatra, move across Indonesia and out into the Pacific Ocean, ending in the south of Guam and North of Hawaii. The eclipse will take place for 4 minutes, but will be visible in Sulawesi for a full 2 minutes and 55 seconds, one of the longest ever in this lifetime. The chosen venue is also the highest and best vantage point to enjoy this rare occurrence.
To date, over 50 music acts in various genres have been confirmed to perform. Activities like live painting, open mic performance, fire dancing and film & documentary screenings also await. For the full list of acts, go to eclipsefestival2016.com.
