It’s Christmas party time once again! As you busy yourself with your menu, do not forget some freshly baked goodies for the kids. Gift them with your labor of love through your own Chewy Sugar Cookies, Oatmeal Cookies, Chocolate Cookies, Blondies, Fudgy Brownies and Lemon Pound Cake. If you don’t know how to prepare these, worry no more because Chef Junjun de Guzman of the Center for Asian Culinary Studies will teach you the basic procedures in creating these treats. CACS is also offering a Christmas Baking Workshop 2 (December 5) and a Flat Bread and Spreads Workshop (December 6).

02 ButtercreamAdvanced Korean Buttercream

Those delicate-looking but mouthwatering Glossy Korean Buttercream is becoming a hit among pastry makers. It is the preferred cake decoration because it gives sculpted flowers a natural appearance and soft texture and can withstand hot weathers. Did you know that the Glossy Buttercream traces its roots in South Korea as invented by G.G. Cakraft? With The Baker’s Co., they’re having a three-day workshop in Manila that will teach you advanced skills like flower-piping techniques, color toning techniques and unique use of decoration tips in creating a flower cake. A one-day Summer Buttercream Cake workshop is also being offered.

Christmas Basket (Para Kay Isko at Iska)

Christmas is the season of giving. There’s a tug in our hearts whenever we receive a smile in return for the presents we give. How more fulfilling it is to share what we have with those who have nothing. Even a little gift means a lot for those who are struggling to go to school but has nothing to spend for food or transportation. Dianne Rosario-Elises, who was a scholar herself and now owns a small events company called The Entrepreneur Lab, is coming up with a bazaar wherein proceeds will enable scholars from low-income family to receive Noche Buena baskets and hopefully help them in their transportation needs so that they, too, will have a merry Christmas this year. Let’s give love and hope this Christmas.

03 GeekFightGeekFight! Trivia Night 

GeekFight Trivia Night is back, and it will be an action-packed evening! Hone your skills and collect your trivia knowledge on anything about action, such as films, stars, TV series and so much more. Round up your troops and play – either solo or in a group of up to six members. Work your way to the top three teams for a special prize. Non-players are welcome to join in the fun. Everyone, players included, have to pay the door charge and enjoy a cocktail drink for free. What a superb way to end the year with punches and explosives.

05 Christmas CarolA Christmas Carol

Let yourself be haunted by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Future in 9Works Theatrical and Globe Live’s A Christmas Carol: A Musical. The magic of Charles Dickens’ novel comes alive under the direction of Robbie Guevara, who is also the founding artistic director of 9Works Theatrical. Veteran stage actor Miguel Faustmann top bills the play as the miser and grouchy Ebenezer Scrooge. He has played the roles of Don Quixote, King Arthur, Monsieur Thernadier and Brutus, to name a few. Catch him and the cast in this Christmas Carol version of Alan Menken and Lynn Ahrens.

09 AmigurumiAmigurumi Workshop

Get into the Japanese art of Amigurumi, a craft where you knit or crochet small stuffed items. The word comes from the Japanese terms ami (knitted or crocheted) and nuigurumi (stuffed doll). Angel Anastacio, the artist who will facilitate the session, loves to make toys and aims to be a social entrepreneur. You will be taught basic Amigurumi stitches like the magic ring as well as other crochet techniques. Once you get the hang of it, then you are good to go to create your own knitted playfood! Make a cupcake, a macaron or a Popsicle and serve them delightfully.

11 WSETWSET Level 1 Award in Wines

Get a Level 1 Award in Wines from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET), which has been training men and women on wines and spirits for 47 years. The Level 1 Award will hone students and enthusiasts on the different kinds of wines, grape varieties, storing and serving wine, safety and legal issues, and food and wine pairing. Candidates who apply for this qualification have to finish the program and training, answer 30 sets of multiple-choice questions and produce a portfolio of tasting notes.
